Twenty-seven graduating seniors at Oceanside High School were recipients of Worthington Scholarships that help academically sound students with financial need obtain a college degree with little or no debt.  Combined with past scholarships awarded at Oceanside beginning in 2010, a total of two million five hundred eighty-five thousand dollars has been awarded to Oceanside students from the Foundation.   CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OCEANSIDE GRADUATES!!

Receiving four- year college scholarships at the recent awards night were Amos Anderson, Igli Bixhaku, Laura Boutin, Zachariah Cody, Thomas Coombs, Jacob Curtis, Jason Davis, Sara Dorr, Wesley Dunkle, Alex Fogarty, Morgan Heal, Jack Lombardo, Alexander Mahar, Tamra Miller, Annaliese Poisson, Anthony Radzimirski, Trevor Reed, Sebastian Sanfilippo, Cole Stevens, Uriah Thongsophaphone, Abigail Veilleux and Dylan Whitamore.    Each will receive $4,000 annually; renewable for four years.

Domonick Jameson, Sean Krejsa, Mckaylee Morris, Benjamin Ripley and Matthew Shaw were awarded community college scholarships; ensuring that all tuition and fees are covered to any Maine community college for 1-3 years, dependent on chosen program.

Our nonprofit currently awards scholarships at Medomak, Oceanside, Camden, Searsport, Belfast and Mt. View High Schools.  Approximately 108 newly graduated high school students will receive scholarships this year, joining 129 upperclassmen currently receiving scholarships.  In 2020 the program will expand into Washington, Hancock and Lincoln Counties and begin providing scholarships to an additional twenty-three high schools.

Founders Beverly and David Worthington, Director Donald Pietrowski and newly graduated Worthington Scholar and past Oceanside student Rachel Johnson made the presentations.   
Current criteria include that the students plan to attend a Maine college, (have a B average for a 4 -year college; a C average for a community college, and an estimated family contribution of $15,000 or less.  Students demonstrating both merit and financial need are encouraged to apply. We also provide a mentoring component, various events, career planning and intern placements to our scholars.

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting students with financial need to graduate college with little or no debt recognized twenty college graduate scholars recently.
The scholarship, up to $4,000 annually for Maine college attendance, provides a major boost to students. A mentoring component and various events provide further support.  Scholarships are also provided for attendance at community colleges for one to three-year programs.  Scholars who graduate with an Associates degree finding they desire to continue to a 4-year program can apply for funding to cover the additional time.

Eight graduating seniors at Searsport District High School were inaugural recipients of Worthington scholarships aimed at good students with financial need obtaining a college degree with little or no debt.   Mikaela Alley, Maxwell Webster, Chori Guzman and Daccariah Sargent (Husson University); George Dakin (Thomas College); Joshua Golder and Kion Tupper (UMO); and Madison Young (USM) each received four-year, $4,000 annually renewable scholarships.  

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation, a nonprofit that each year awards a total of 68 college scholarships at Oceanside, Medomak and Camden, this year added Searsport, Belfast and Mt. View.  Approximately 140 students will receive scholarships this year.

WE – contact potential employers and seek their interest in Worthington scholar interns.
YOU – fill out the INTERN INTEREST FORM (email kerry@worthingtonscholars.org for a copy) and return it to us.
WE – send your application to the internship opportunities whose positions match your areas of interest.  We advise you which businesses have received your information; you contact them for an interview.
EMPLOYERS – Interview and negotiate the terms directly with the employer.
There are still a few positions left.    And…best of all…some of our graduates have been hired by the companies where they interned!

ROCKLAND, ME – The Worthington Scholarship Foundation (WSF) with a mission to support post-secondary education in Maine is pleased to announce the addition of Jay McIntire of Winslow as Program Director, and Kerry Hadley of Owls Head as Communications Specialist and College Mentor.

Jay joins the foundation with a breadth of experience in education, including teaching, university instructor, researcher, administrator, and federal lobbyist. He is also an experienced author and presenter. His teaching specialties include students with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. Jay’s education includes a BA from UMaine, MS from Lesley College, and advanced studies at the University of Virginia and UMaine.

Kerry is well known to many in our community having been the face of the Camden Opera House for 16 years. Her previous experience includes executive director at the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce and public relations at Ketchum Communications, NYC. “Kerry’s focus throughout her career has been to successfully grow small companies while maintaining quality. Having Jay and Kerry on board will advance our goal to continue to grow our programs state-wide” according to Rick Bedigian, Executive Director.

Rockland, ME—The Worthington Scholarship, available to graduating seniors at Oceanside High School and Camden Hills Regional High School, was awarded to 58 students during Scholarship Nights held at each high school in early June. This is the largest number of recipients the scholarship has experienced, and they will join 65 students currently enrolled in college. Oceanside awarded the scholarship to 39 seniors, and Camden Hills recognized 19 seniors. These 58 students and their families will be honored at a send-off event, to be held on August 6 at the Samoset Resort.

The Worthington Scholarship supports graduating seniors who are enrolling at any branch of the University of Maine or Maine Community College systems, Husson University, Thomas College, or Maine Maritime Academy. The award amount is $4,000 per year, renewable for the duration of the student’s 2- or 4-year degree program. All students must complete a financial literacy course before receiving funds and are expected to communicate periodically with the Worthington Scholars Mentor, Caitlin Clark. Clark will assist students with the transition to college and be available to help students with issues that arise throughout their college and career development. The Worthington Scholars program continues to evolve and grow, and the scholarship will be expanded to include Medomak Valley High School in the ’17/’18 school year. This scholarship is administered by Maine Community Foundation.
