Newly appointed Worthington Scholars with founders Beverly and David Worthington during a joy filled graduation and awards ceremony.At a joyous, fun filled, celebratory graduation and special awards ceremony held at Medomak Valley High School Wednesday night, twenty five graduates received up to $16,000 scholarships apiece from the Worthington Scholarship Foundation. The goal of the scholarship is to assist good students with financial need obtain a college degree minimize college debt.
Those twenty-five graduates are: Emily Grinnell, Ethan Gould, Jordan Hays, Jaden Abruseze, Elizabeth Flanagan, Emma Hooper, Ashley Holmes, Alec Coughlin, Catherine Sheldmerdine, Kaysee Leary, Hattie Watmough, Greyson Clark, Aubrey Schaeffer, Tyler Lee, Madelyn White, Elias Miller, Logan Butler, Kelsey Berry, Peter Alexander, Alden Mclain, Mikayla Wallace, Emily Wotton, Leah Wilcox, Kaysee Leary and Aidan Janes-Risteen.
The nonprofit this year will award 108 midcoast area high school graduates attending college approximately one million six hundred thousand dollars ($1,600,000.00) in college funds.
Founders Beverly and David Worthington and College Mentor and Communications Director Kerry attended the ceremony to demonstrate to each student their personal involvement and interest in their ability to further their education. The foundation also provides a mentoring component, various events, career planning and intern placements.
Scholarship criteria is:
– attend a Maine college, (see list on our website)
-have a B average for a 4 -year college; a C average for community college attendance,
-have an estimated family contribution (by FAFSA) of $15,000 or less.
